A WORD FROM OUR PRESIDENT
RANDALL GOODDEN
The massive and continuously growing record breaking number of product recalls in the past 6 years have had a major economic affect on countless manufacturers around the world, has lead to ongoing changes in product safety regulatory requirements in a number of countries, and ultimately continues to lead to lawsuits and changes in the legal processes around the world opening the doors to even more lawsuits in countries that previously had no such abilities

Throughout the world more and more manufacturers are looking for the opportunities to sell their products in the world marketplace, but are unprepared for what they might face. More significantly, the management teams at these manufacturing companies are finding it difficult to keep up with all the regulatory requirements and changes constantly taking place in all of the countries the companies try to market their products.

Although the United States had been dubbed the “birthplace of product liability”, product liability laws around the world are in a constant state of change. Many parts of the world are heading away from their highly, or loosely, controlled ultra conservative positions and are becoming more "westernized", modeling the simplicity of initiating legal action in the United States to what they would like to see in their own country, with contingency arrangements and the elimination of other plaintiff barriers and financial burdens, as the plaintiff attorneys overseas really begin to eye the potential economic gains from such litigation.

Through our newsletters, and especially our co-sponsored Seminars and Conferences around the world, it is our goal and objective to keep our members as current with all of these changes as possible, and assist them in protecting their own companies.

We hope you will join all the rest of us and help grow the Association.
At the same time the citizens and governments of many countries are demanding that their product safety agencies do more to protect them against the possibilities of defective and dangerous products, which leads to a vast array of new regulatory and reporting requirements which becomes challenging for manufacturers to be aware of and keep current on.

Successfully protecting a company from devestating recalls and especially product liability lawsuits isn't just a matter of common sense, or there wouldn't be record numbers of recalls and as many product liability lawsuits as there are each year. Nor do such lawsuits only affect small companies. Large corporations are hit as often as small companies, and the losses many times reflect their size. This is why I have spent so many years writing books on this topic and teaching seminars around the world, and is also the reason why I created this Association. My objective is to help teach management teams what they need to know, and supply resources and references to help them succeed.

Although this Association currently focuses on manufactured products, I would like to expand it into Food & Pharmaceuticals in the very near future, and could use your help with the effort. If you would be interested in joining our group and helping us write and talk about safety and prevention in Food & Pharmaceuticals, we woud be happy to hear from you.

We are always looking for more news and articles on Product Safety, and resources that are available to manufacturers worldwide. Please feel free to write us with anything you may have to offer.
